Threads is a new app by Meta that lets users share text updates and join public conversations.
Launched by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on July 5th, 2023.
Users can post up to 500 characters and add links, photos, and videos. They can also find and join threads on any topic.
Threads is compatible with the open, interoperable social networks that Meta wants for the future. Users can share their threads across platforms and apps, and control their privacy and safety.
Threads reached 100 million users in five days, breaking the record of TikTok, which took 19 days.
Users liked Threads for it's simplicity, ease of use, relevance, timeliness, and positive vibe. They could log in with their Instagram account and start posting & join the conversation right away.
Threads faced some challenges and criticisms, such as being accused of copying Twitter, draining phone batteries, and violating user privacy.
Threads plans to add more features and improvements to the app, such as a chronological feed, a dark mode, a voice chat option, and more integrations with other Meta products.
Threads also aims to support more languages and regions in the future.
